Stronger with Parkinson’s - Community Project
Stronger with Parkinson’s began with a simple idea: people living with Parkinson’s should have the opportunity to stay active, build strength and challenge themselves in a welcoming environment.
With support from the Parkinson’s UK Physical Activity Grant, New Horizons was able to get the project off the ground and create a dedicated exercise opportunity for people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
The project started with fortnightly sessions and has since grown into a weekly community class. Sessions combine boxing, strength, balance, coordination, cardiovascular exercise and large-amplitude movements, with exercises adapted to the individual.
This project has created a space where people can meet others who understand their experiences, try something new, celebrate their progress and continue to challenge what they believe they can do.
The Impact
From helping people feel more confident using weights and exercise equipment, to giving people the opportunity to move, laugh and train alongside others, Stronger with Parkinson’s is helping create a community where a diagnosis doesn't have to define what someone can do.
The project continues to grow, with the aim of making regular physical activity more accessible to people affected by Parkinson’s across the local community.

Local Partnership - Working Together with PT Fitness
Our partnership with PT Fitness in Mold has helped New Horizons create more opportunities for people in the local community to become stronger, more active and more confident in a gym environment.
PT Fitness provides a welcoming, family-run gym where our clients can exercise in a quieter and less intimidating setting, making it particularly suitable for people who may not feel comfortable in a traditional busy gym.
Through this partnership, New Horizons delivers 1:1 physiotherapy and personal training, Stronger with Parkinson’s sessions and individualised strength and rehabilitation programmes.
For some people, stepping into a gym can feel like a huge challenge. Having the right environment, guidance and support can make that first step much easier.
Our partnership with PT Fitness allows us to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and longer-term exercise, helping people move from “What can I safely do?” towards “What else can I achieve?”
Together, we're helping make strength training and exercise more accessible to people who might otherwise feel that a gym isn't for them.
